He is considered one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age, along with Rembrandt. Vermeer was born in Delft, the Netherlands, in October 1632 and died in December 1675. He is renowned for his masterful use of light and shadow, which he achieved through the use of the camera obscura, a device that projected images to assist in creating realistic scenes.

Vermeer's paintings, characterized by their luminosity, often depicted domestic scenes, and he was known for his meticulous attention to detail.
