Egon Schiele (1890-1918) was an Austrian artist who gained recognition for his expressionist paintings, drawings, and prints. He was born on June 12th, 1890, in Tulln, Austria, and attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts for two years, where he was greatly influenced by the artist Gustav Klimt. Schiele's artwork is noted for its intensity, raw sexuality, and the many self-portraits he produced, including nude self-portraits. His style was highly unique and recognizable, characterized by thin lines and exaggerated features. Schiele's work often depicted disturbing intensity, twisted bodies, and unapologetic eroticism, which was considered shocking and offensive for its explicit nature. He tragically died at a young age from the Spanish flu pandemic on October 31st, 1918, at the age of 28. Despite his short life, Schiele made a lasting impact on modern art, influencing subsequent generations with his deep emotional expressionism and unorthodox approach to beauty and form.
