Paul Signac (1863-1935) was a French neo-impressionist painter who, working with Georges Seurat, helped develop the pointillist style. He was born in Paris on November 11, 1863, and initially studied architecture before deciding at the age of 18 to pursue a career as a painter. Signac's work is characterized by its use of small, distinct dots of color applied in patterns to form an image. This technique, known as pointillism, was a significant innovation in the art world and had a lasting impact on the development of modern art.

Signac's paintings often depicted landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes, and he was known for his use of light and color to create a sense of atmosphere and mood in his paintings. Some of his most famous works include "The Port of Saint-Tropez," "The Pine Tree at Saint-Tropez," and "The Red Buoy". These paintings are celebrated for their technical skill and the artist's ability to capture the essence of his subjects and the emotions evoked by the scenes.

Signac was also a writer and art theorist, and he wrote several important works on the theory of art, including "From Eugène Delacroix to Neo-Impressionism," which was first published in serial form in 1898. His contributions to the art world, particularly in the genre of pointillism, have solidified his reputation as a prominent figure in the history of French art. His unique approach to painting and his dedication to capturing the beauty of life have influenced generations of artists. Signac's work continues to captivate art enthusiasts and has cemented his reputation as a master of neo-impressionist art.
