CLAUDE MONET OIL PAINTING REPRODUCTIONS

Claude Monet was a French painter who is widely considered one of the founders of impressionist painting. In addition, he is widely regarded as one of the best fine artists of all time and a very important precursor to modernism.

Style and influence

His innovative approach to painting his subjects, particularly landscapes, often involves offering a more emotional depiction of reality. Instead of trying to re-create a scene in a more meticulous way, he would portray how he perceived what he saw. This was a very distinct contrast compared to other more realistic artistic currents, and it was also quite significant especially considering the fact that photography was in its infancy in those days.

All of a sudden, the “job“ of painters was no longer to record reality but to provide an artistic interpretation of it, hence the name impressionism. Monet was raised in the beautiful region of Normandy, and the fact that he spent a lot of his childhood playing outdoors probably inspired his interest in painting landscapes and nature especially.

Painting in series and letting light and colors tell the story

One of the main challenges in painting outside was the fact that you couldn’t really rely on steady lighting. However, this limitation became somewhat of a signature identifier of Monet and his work. He went to great lengths in order to capture the details of light changing throughout the day. In some cases, he even went as far as painting the same scene multiple times over there, only on the same day but also in different seasons, in order to fully document how time influenced a particular scene. Because of this, there are many series of related artworks attributed to this artist. Today, Monet’s work is highly sought-after, leading to a very big market for reproductions, copies, and prints of his work.

Legacy

Monet was quite successful during his lifetime. However, he became even more acclaimed after his death, with many following artists citing him as an inspiration for their work. In his later years, he moved to London, England, in order to avoid participating in the Franco-Prussian war that was raging in the late 1800s. Later, he moved to a suburb of Paris, where he continued to paint panoramas and landscapes. The quality of colors was extremely important for Monet. According to one of his friends, he was so obsessed with the need to constantly study colors that he admitted them when he was observing the remains of his recently deceased wife. He couldn’t help but note the color on her face following an automatic impulse.

As mentioned earlier, Monet often painted in series, so there are multiple paintings relating to the same subject. Some of these include Woman in the garden, Autumn on the Seine at Argenteuil, Camille Monet and a Child, Haystacks at Giverny, Impression Sunrise, Poplars at Giverny, Waterloo Bridge, London, Water Lilies, Evening Effect, Irises in Monet’s Garden, Houses of Parliament, Three Trees in Grey Eeather, San Giorgio Maggiore At Dusk, Poppies, Woman With Parasol, The Water Pond and many more.
