Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St. Thomas in the West Indies. He is known for his contributions to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, and his work is characterized by its attention to detail and the artist's ability to capture the essence of his subjects and the emotions evoked by the scenes. Pissarro studied under great forerunners, including Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, and later worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac when he took on the Neo-Impressionist style. He was a father figure not only to the Impressionists but to all four of the major Post-Impressionists: Cézanne, Seurat, Gauguin, and van Gogh.
